Board Position Descriptions

Serving as president of CREW Network is a three year commitment: one year each as president-elect, president and immediate past president. Serving as a director on the CREW Network board is a two year commitment. When thinking of candidates to nominate for the CREW Network board, please consider the responsibilities related to each of these positions.

President

General activities/duties

Overall planning of CREW Network policy direction and priorities, and coordination of all CREW Network activities, with board, council and chief executive officer (CEO). Lead the CREW Network strategic board in all policy development to advance the organization and the stature of our members and chapters. Plan and preside at board and council meetings and lead the executive committee. Prepare and present programs to existing, new and potential chapters. Serve as a consultant and advisor to CREW Network chapter leaders through online/phone conversations, at council meetings and on visits to chapters. Communicate with board, council chapter presidents and members through CREW Network publications, written reports, email, conference calls and individual conversations. Travel and speak on behalf of the CREW Network. Work closely with the CEO to make sure resources are available to carry out the priority policies and direction of the board. The board has fiduciary responsibilities for oversight and the board president oversees the evaluation of the CEO who is responsible for operations. Board members participate in and assist, as desired, various task forces. Support and participate in fundraising for CREW Network and CREW Network Foundation initiatives. Train the president-elect.

President-elect

General activities/duties

Assist the president with overall planning and coordination of the activities of the board and council, including participation on the executive committee. Prepare and present programs to existing, new and potential chapters. Serve as a consultant and advisor to CREW Network chapter leaders through online/phone conversations, at council meetings and on visits to chapters. Train to become president of the CREW Network. Lead the Resource Development Committee as chairman to help identify resources. Support and participate in fundraising for CREW Network and CREW Network Foundation initiatives. Serve as a member of the CEO Compensation Committee.

Immediate Past President

General activities/duties

Assist the president with overall planning and coordination of the activities of the board and council, including participation on the executive committee. Prepare and present programs to existing, new and potential chapters. Serve as a consultant and advisor to CREW Network chapter leaders through online/phone conversations, at council meetings and on visits to chapters. Support and participate in fundraising for CREW Network and CREW Network Foundation initiatives. Act as direct liaison to the CREW Network Foundation from the CREW Network board setting priorities and communicating the correct alignment of Foundation funding to support the CREW Network mission. Serve as a member of the CEO Compensation Committee.

Director (Two year term)

General activities/duties

Participate as part of the team that oversees the direction and policies, and sets the priorities for the CREW Network. Participate in council meetings and develop and lead various leadership/governance development sessions during council sessions. A director may be assigned specific responsibilities based on her strengths, experience and interests, including participation as a member of the CEO Compensation Committee, the Audit Committee, and as chair or committee member of a task force. Directors travel to chapters during the year to make presentations to the membership and meet with local chapter leaders. Each director has specific fundraising goals and participates on a team to develop resources. Support and participate in fundraising for CREW Network and CREW Network Foundation initiatives.
