Lyan Fernandez is Chief Operating Officer, Chief Risk Officer and Executive Vice President of TotalBank, South Florida’s premier full-service community bank. In her role, Fernandez oversees all operations for the $3.0 billion financial institution, which has been ranked consistently among the healthiest banks in the U.S.  She also oversees the Bank’s risk management functions, assessing risk exposure and directing all risk management strategies.

A practicing attorney and former complex commercial litigator, Fernandez entered the banking industry in early 1991 with general counsel roles at a private and later at a public financial institution before joining TotalBank in 1999 as Executive Vice President of the Credit Division.  In 2007, she was named Chief Credit and Risk Officer and, in 2009, Chief Operating Officer. 

During her tenure, Fernandez has shaped the risk management culture and structure of TotalBank and has championed the expansion of technology in order to promote efficiency and create an optimal customer experience.  

Lyan is a past president of CREW-Miami. Under her leadership the chapter hosted the 2014 CREW Network Convention and Marketplace. Lyan also chaired the CREW-Miami Convention Program Committee. She also held Membership and Strategic Planning director roles on the CREW-Miami board of directors. Lyan served on the CREW Network Member Education Committee in 2013 and is currently serving a two-year term as CREW Network Foundation Champion Director (2018-19). Lyan is a member of the Board of Trustees for the Coral Gables Museum. In 2011, she was named one of the Most Influential Business Women by the South Florida Business Journal, and has been recognized by CREW-Miami with the 2009 Star Award and the 2011 Outstanding Mover & Shaker Award.

Fernandez received a Juris Doctor degree, cum laude, from the University of Miami (Fla.) School of Law (1979), and graduated magna cum laude with a Bachelor of Arts degree, also from the University of Miami (1975).  She enjoys travelling with her family, reading and is a foodie at heart.
