Hamilton the Musical and CREW Network Convention: Collaboration = Success

2018 CREW Network Convention & Marketplace opens October 17

Have you seen the musical Hamilton? Oh my! I saw it recently in Chicago—it is an amazing production. Who would have thought there would be a Broadway show about one of the United States’ Founding Fathers? I guess Lin-Manuel Miranda thought about it since he created this fantastic show. It was innovative and unexpected.

With the flurry of dancers and actors, I didn’t know where to look on stage. Listening to the violins, cello, flute and clarinet all working together to create the perfect accompaniment to unusually hip songs had my feet tapping. The staging, while simple, helped frame the flow of the story.

How do they do that? It looks so easy, yet I know they’ve spent countless hours perfecting each dance step, refining the pace and flow of their song and coordinating the musical instruments. The connection between the actors, music and attendees creates a unique combination of community in the moment.

In thinking about Hamilton and the CREW Network Convention and Marketplace, our Member Education Committee, our Convention Planning Committee, staff and leadership are the music, actors and stage. We have prepared for many months. We are the collaboration of many talents and skills that deliver a truly unique experience for our attendees. We have synchronized our plans, collaborated on ideas, and introduced new “stage sets” to give you the best learning, networking and business opportunities.

Our new pre-conference workshops are ready. We have introduced CREW Coffee Talk, an opportunity facilitated though our new CREW Events app for you to identify and meet with others at the convention to share ideas, talk business or make deals. Our “stage” becomes new each year as we deliver new opportunities to connect, learn and grow.

Our partnership and collaboration with CREW San Diego is just like Hamilton, right? There’s a great deal of movement from session to session (dancing), there’s the hum and buzz (music) of networking and business deals being done, and there’s the new connections being made (stories). We couldn’t do it without our volunteers and I appreciate their commitment to creating our own musical with words, speakers and venue.

Alexander Hamilton would be proud of what we’ve created for our convention. While it’s no musical, the thread of partnership, connectivity and collaboration emulates Hamilton by delivering a memorable experience. See you in San Diego!
