“There are a lot of changes within CREW – the Richmond chapter has evolved and grown. There are more and more transactions being reported among members,” says Debbie Wake.

CREW Richmond, one of three Virginia CREW Network chapters, is located in the politically-charged “Tri-State” area of the United States. Founded in 1990, CREW Richmond’s 88 members know how to get business done, engaging in constant member-to-member interaction and collaboration with other CRE organizations year-round.

Evidence of CREW Richmond’s dedication to member-to-member support are the “Q1 2017 Deal Divas.” Working together on the refinancing of both a retail center (Tappahannock, Va.) and an office building (Innsbrook, Va.), the team includes Jodie Strum of Atlantic Real Estate Capital, Kate Wagner of Sonabank, Brett McNamee of Divaris Real Estate, Inc., and Donna Bearman of Forest City Commercial Group.

In other chapter member-to-member highlights, in September 2016, Rene Shepperson (Union Bank & Trust) made a $3.78 million loan to Chris Hairston-White (Better Housing Coalition) to partially fund the acquisition/pre-development/carrying costs of a former hotel and parking structure in Richmond with further funding for an adaptive re-use and new construction of mixed income/mixed use development utilizing low income housing tax credits and bond financing. Plans are for 100 housing units as well as new construction of 75 units, and 90 of the 175 units earmarked for low-income households. Andrea Harlow (Williams Mullen) served as legal counsel to Union.

CREW Richmond takes advantage of the CREW Network programs, including CREW Careers and UCREW.  It utilizes a social media director and highlights members via a Member Spotlight in its quarterly newsletter, Facebook and Twitter feeds.

Debbie Wake of Divaris Real Estate, Inc. can attest to the continued relevance of CREW Network in her Richmond community.  A 20-year chapter member, Wake says, “There are a lot of changes within CREW – the Richmond chapter has evolved and grown. There are more and more transactions being reported among members.”

Past Chapter President Susan F. Jones of Colliers International attributed the member-to-member success within CREW Richmond to their highly active Richmond-only market and community. At each monthly luncheon, the chapter promotes their “Deal Minute,” providing an open mic for anyone that has referred and completed business with another member.
