Fon Wang arranged a members-only tour the future Linode Headquarters. Attendees were able to discuss the project with the owner and fellow CREW Philadelphia members who were involved in the construction.

Fon Wang is the Director of Historic Preservation with Ballinger in Philadelphia, Pa., and has been a CREW member for nearly 10 years. She has served on the CREW Philadelphia board for three years and on various committees responsible for coordinating events and connecting members. Wang’s CREW involvement provided her with the connections necessary to quickly assemble a team of highly-qualified members to bid on a project in historic Philadelphia.

Wang’s company, Ballinger, was selected to renovate a historic three-story building which was built in 1902, initially operating as the Union Bank of Philadelphia and then as the Girard Corn Exchange National Bank and Trust Company. Located next to the Betsy Ross House, the building is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

The 22,000 sq. ft. building was to be renovated for Linode, a growing technology company. Wang introduced fellow CREW members to the project owner. Three of the construction managers who bid on the project were CREW members, and member company C. Erickson & Sons, Inc. was awarded the project. Dawood Engineering, Inc. also was secured through the efforts of Wang and CREW connections. The Lighting Practice, also a CREW Philadelphia member firm, also worked with the design team to highlight the historic architecture in various spots, such as the basement marble walls illuminated by surface-mounted linear slots.

The project received the chapter's "Community Impact Award" in 2018 and local recogition at CREW Philadelphia's Annual Charitable Luncheon attended by over 600 Philadelphia real estate industry professionals.

As a lecturer for the University of Pennsylvania’s Historic Preservation Studio, Wang draws inspiration from the fresh ideas of the students she teaches. She assists young professionals through career mentorship, both informally and formally, and also serves as a mentor through various organizations. Ultimately, it is Wang’s passion for connecting and mentoring women that was the springboard for building a strong CREW network, and allowing her to build a successful project team for the historical site.

Wang was honored by the Philadelphia Business Journal as one of the 40 under 40 local proven performers in their industries and communities. She also received the Young Architects Award from AIA Philadelphia. Wang holds a Bachelor of Architecture from Syracuse University and a Master of Science in Historic Preservation from the University of Pennsylvania where she was the inaugural recipient of the David De Long Fellowship. In addition to CREW, her professional affiliations include serving on the Steering Committee for the Design Advocacy Group, and on Philadelphia’s Preservation Task Force.
