Participants will learn how the City of Orlando transformed the former site of the Amway Arena into a 68-acre mixed use site promoting higher education with a focus on the Digital Arts, Media and Creative disciplines as well as Culinary Arts and Hospitality. Creative Village is a Public/Private partnership between the City of Orlando and the Master Developer, Creative Village Development, LLC (CVD). Creative Village fosters a “live, work, learn and play” lifestyle in the heart of downtown while bringing community development to the adjacent Paramore area. The site will include housing and retail development for college students of both UCF and Valencia College.
Just west of Creative Village is the OCPS Academic Center of Excellence serving PK-8 children. This site is being developed with great care using environmentally responsible demolition practices. The Amway Arena debris was recycled and/or sorted for reuse, including approximately 94 million lbs. of concrete and an estimated 13 million lbs. of steel. Over 98% of the material was recycled, repurposed or stored for future use in the Creative Village infrastructure.
Participants will be able to see Dr. Phillips Academic Commons, the Center for Emerging Media, Union West (student housing) and Bob Carr Auditorium. (A great example of a civic structure that has morphed to the support the arts within the growing City of Orlando.) The Master Developer, Craig Ustler will share the story for how this vision is becoming a reality.
