Compass International Founder Karen Curnow is an internationally recognized authority in developing powerful, compassionate leaders. Her work with senior executives, teams, and coaches supports world changers in creating impact that matters. Having worked and lived in France, Turkey, Kenya, Austria, and the USA, Curnow has served as executive and team coach, consultant, university professor, and training director.
Acknowledged as a leader in leadership development and coaching, Curnow serves on the faculty of Georgetown University’s Leadership Coaching program, was selected by the United Nations as a certified coach and leadership-training consultant, and is an international PCC credential assessor for the International Coach Federation. She was an organizing team member for the groundbreaking September 2017 Calling in Power and Culture Summit, bringing together over 30 coach education programs to integrate and transform the dynamics of power, privilege, rank and culture in coaching.
Committed to supporting innovators with global impact, Curnow also coaches TED Fellows as well as Fellows from Starting Bloc and from the Unreasonable Institute. She helps her clients clarify and step strongly into their leadership by developing deeper connection, meaning, and presence, enabling them to shift nimbly as business requires.

Curnow’s publications focus on leadership, international management/living, coaching, and workplace diversity and inclusion. She contributed two chapters to the publication, On Becoming a Leadership Coach, Second Edition. Among her other publications are “Differences and Discourses: Coaching across Cultures” (in The International Journal of Coaching in Organizations), Notes from a Traveling Childhood, chapter activities in Tools and Activities for a Diverse Work Force, “Gender at Work” (cover article for Public Management magazine), and a variety of magazine articles on international management.
