When Ritu Saheb registered for the 2024 CREW Network Convention in Vancouver, British Columbia, her goal was to make connections and grow her business. Attending the CREW New York chapter meet up at the convention allowed her to do just that. She re-connected with Jennifer Carey, and as they say, the rest is history.

Both are active members of CREW New York. Saheb, an ethnically minority immigrant woman business owner, joined about two years ago. Carey, a 30-year commercial real estate veteran and fellow business owner, is a long-standing member of CREW.

The pair came together to collaborate on a Hamilton Heights townhouse in New York. They chose to work “within the CREW family” knowing they would obtain quick and reliable results. The project collaboration included asbestos sampling of this landmarked townhouse in preparation for permitting and construction as part of its conversion into a multifamily property for passive income generation.

In working on the deal, a highlight for Saheb was discovering that Carey had an enormous capacity to manage this type of work and more. Her team was capable and would help move the process along with efficiency.

A highlight for Carey was working with someone she enjoyed. There was an immediate rapport, as she noted, “it is a joy in life to get to collaborate with people you like.”

For CREW members looking to do similar deals, Saheb advises to truly be an active member to get to know what’s out there, bring business cards to any function, and remember that CREW events are not just for social networking. She added to please look at fellow CREW members to do business before you seek other vendors.

Similarly, Carey added, “your network is your net worth. Try to cross pollinate and meet new people. Develop your network and look for different opportunities to build your wealth. Ensure that you stay authentic, have a presence, and be mindful of these connections.”
